"Bank Workers Forum" editorial:

United Forum of Bank Unions is a united platform of bank employees for struggle.
Along with the unity for struggle, struggle for unity is a part of it.
Many a times we may have to struggle for united actions inside this platform also.
It is quite natural in a movement where pro-struggle, anti-struggle and struggle-averse elements rally together.

It is true that from the very beginning, UFBU could not react firmly towards the adamant attitude adopted by the bank management.
UFBU decided for serious agitation for wage revision only after the leaders were forced to rise up to the expectation of the common employees.

Even after the declaration of strike, the bank management continued their negative attitude.
Offering a humiliating wage increase to the employees, IBA’s advice to them was to accept their offer, withdraw the strike and sign the settlement.
Obviously UFBU rejected the offer and went ahead with agitation programs.

But reacting favorably to the offer of the management, one organization wanted to withdraw
the agitation.
But UFBU leadership might never have expected that this will come out in such a dangerous manner.
Through their latest circular AIBEA has given very clear hint to IBA that their stand is quite different from other constituents of UFBU and that the demand of UFBU is unjust.
Through their confession they have declared that their charter of demand for 40% wage increase itself was wrong.

And bank management is cleverly utilizing this opportunity.
This was very clear in the discussion held on September 17.
The understanding was that there can be some flexibility in our demand for 25% wage increase, but it will be declared only after noting how much IBA increase their offer and what stand they take on other issues.

But in the discussion, IBA took a very tough position that they will proceed further only after knowing how much UFBU is willing to climb down.
Arming themselves with the circular issued by one constituent, that alone can be expected.
Then UFBU again met and decided to climb down to 23%, but AIBEA still was not satisfied.
The bank management then closed the discussion saying that revised offer will be placed during the next meeting on Sept 23.

Normally the discussions held by constituents inside a joint platform are not disclosed to outsiders.
But that practice has to be given up for the very survival and healthy progress of UFBU.
Let the members of each unit know and assess how their leaders think and act. Let them correct the leaders wherever necessary.

Otherwise it will pave way for anarchist and unwarranted incidents like the march taken out at Jantar Mantar on Sept 13 challenging the trade unions.
The very credibility of the joint movement is at stake. It should be avoided at any cost.

UFBU leaders has to be thrown out of the entire system soon to make bank unions a respectable and effective entity

I think writer of the above editorial himself is leader and has not been able to judge march at Jantar Mantar on 13th in right earnest. He has conveniently forgotten that UFBU itself is not organisation. It has 9 constituent unions. Leaders of these unions participating in UFBU owe responsibility to their executive and members and they must abide the provisions of constitution of their unions. How they changed charter of demand approved by their executive in the name of charter of common charter of demand? Why they agreed to lower the demand frim 30 to 25% without seeking consent from their members? How they can give call for one day strike without following the procedure given in their constitution. Handful persons cannot and should not be given unfettered rights to decide the destiny of bank employees in the name of UFBU. The way they are behaving closely resembles to authoritarian attitude. September 13 March must be viewed as reaction of bankers against this attitude.

The inefficient acts of the UFBU leaders only forced the younger generation bankmen to organise such a meeting at the JANTAR MANTAR on 13.09.2014. However, it has created some flutter among the UfBU leaders and atleast from now onwards, let us hope that they can do a good & better work for getting a honourable wage revision for the entire bankmen.

Learn from Doctors/advocates etc who go on indefinite strike without caring for himan lives. when various sections of society can adopt hard stances to get their demands accepted then why not bankers. Atleast here there is not threat to human life. Pls harden ur stance and show guts to present the truth instead of doing politics and looking for increasing ur own profits and get transparent. highly depressed Bankers will not forgive u who r taking their lives when left with no option due to undue press exerted by seniors. U were thought to protect their intersts but ur actions speak the opposite and indicate no concern about the present serving. Everyone knows the pathetic life bamkers are living except ur union who is just concerned about tea parties. Did anyone of u really try to know the reasons of bankers doing suicide or high attrition in banks. wake up before its to late. Dont betray the people who have trusted u for decades and dont be shameless.

Very incomptent leadership of UFBU! High time to change the leadership. C'mon guys let's throw them out.

Leave union

Anonymous said...

If the wage revision settlement belies the expectations this time and UFBU agrees for anything less than 25%,it shall be construed as sell off and the unions shall inevitably witness further divisions in their rank & file. If IBA is defiant, call for indefinite strike as desired by members. Management/IBA/Govt. has already tamed the unions, as is generally believed. This is perhaps the final opportunity for them to show their loyalty towards their members.

Every one should have to leave union

Indefinite strike is the only solution

Anonymous said...

Kick them out they are not with us.they are just enjoying and delaying the process... Ufbu is just "united forum of bakchod uncles..and implement cpc into banking industry..

Anonymous said...

One day strike is not a way only indefinite strike is a way for best solution .After indefinite strike they will fulfill our demand and for this we all are with u...don`t worry go for indefinite strike..

If the union is not able to settle our demand to 25%, we are going to file PIL in the court to remove these unions and form pay commission in line of central government employee...No unions needed...

Anonymous said...

All Union leaders are agents...dalal of IBA...

Anonymous said...

All we need to do is file PIL in the court to replace unions with central pay commission....

Anonymous said...

These bloody union are busy with there own needs....all the leaders are going to retire and want maximum benefit for themselves.....we the younger generation should form another union who will look into our needs

Majority of the bankmen/bankwomen in this current scenario wants to have an Indefinite strike to press our genuine demand of 25% wage hike. Why these union leaders are hesitating to hold indefinite strike. They should not shed CROCODILE TEARS in support of the general public. For instance, the Doctors, Paramedics, Lawyers in this country are not bothering about the general public sufferings when they go for any strike to press their demands and have so far won their struggles. Hence, I request the UFBU LEADERS to announce INDEFINITE STRIKE in the first week of Nov.2014, failing which they may incur heavy damages and losses by losing their memberships particularly from the younger generations.

No wage revision has taken place before 900 days from the due date.only 600 days have passed so just one or more than one year is needed for next revision. Iven if iba and ubfu pension holders association meets again nothing will come out. All ubfu leader want is pension and nothing else.
