AIBEA'S CIRCULAR ON USING SOCIAL MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY!

dt6th October, 2014

Dear Comrades,

Need for caution while using communication technology

All of us are aware that advancements in communication technology has opened up lot of scope for quick and faster communications.  We in the trade unions also can and should adopt and utilise these facilities to reach out to our members to inform them of developments, informations and decisions of the organisation in real time.  Already we find that besides using emails for sending our circulars and communications, our units utilise facilities like websites, blogs, SMS, group messaging, Facebook,  Whatsapp, etc. etc.  This has really helped us in percolating informations to down-level members in the branches.......

................Further, we also observe that in the social media, these utilities are being misused by some people.  We also find that groups have been created in the name of AIBEA and all types of informations and messages are getting shared through the same.  Sometimes, we find that some of the informations are wrong, half-truths, malicious, anti AIBEA, anti UFBU and anti-trade union.  All these only help to add to confusions and create disaffection against the organisation and leadership, etc. in the eyes of common members.  Many persons who are not our members misuse and utilise the platform to abuse AIBEA without knowing facts.

Some are also using abusive and derogatory languages which can be treated as Cyber Crime, punishable under Cyber Law.  We have referred such cases to our lawyers as to how to deal with such cases of messages with derogatory and defamatory language.

We wish to inform that we have not authorised anyone to create any Facebook account or whatsapp group in the name of AIBEA.
Our units can create such account in their own name/union name but no one should use the name of AIBEA.  The administrators of such groups should be careful enough not to allow unscrupulous persons to join the group.

Similarly there are a few groups and Facebook accounts which are used to abuse UFBU, AIBEA, our leadership, etc. While some of them are innocent and genuine questions/comments are posted, few of them are using foul language.  It is obvious that many of them are not members.  It is also very clear that some are anti-AIBEA elements.  Our units should caution our members not to be angered or polluted by such deliberate and mischievous provocations.

Particularly, on the question of wage revision, while anxiety because of the delay is understandable, inimical elements are utilising this to instigate innocent employees against trade unions. And, because AIBEA is the major organisation, the ire is conveniently targeted and directed against AIBEA.   All of us know that UFBU is trying its  best to settle the wage revision settlement.  In AIBEA also we have taken decisions to achieve good wage revision and expeditious settlement.  We must particularly explain to our young and new employees who have no idea of earlier wage settlement.  Their doubts on New Pension Scheme, Pay Commission, parity with Government employees, etc. should be properly clarified.

In the name of such social media interactions, young employees are being segregated and sought to be isolated.  Youngsters and young employees are a part and parcel of our unions and their demands and aspirations are equally important and that is why in the charter of demands and in our approach to the settlement we have those issues in mind.  But it is observed that some elements outside our organisation are trying to misguide and instigate and provoke the young employees through social media and other efforts.  Our Unions should advice and guide our members not to be misled by such attempts.

Times are challenging.  Wage revision issue is getting delayed.  Lot of rumours are in the market, many of them deliberately engineered to create confusions.   Hence we must communicate to our rank and file and keep them properly informed.  For that communication technology should be better used.

But then, there is need for caution against misuse and abuse by others against us.

With greetings,
Yours Comradely,
 C.H.VENKATACHALAM
GENERAL SECRETARY

I agree with chv. But sir why we r not getting first hand informations from union. Why we should depend on others to know the latest developments. Why union is not responding to the alligations made on the social sites. If union want to retain the loyal comrades, pl come open.

The need of the hour as far as the UFBU is concerned only to pick up the relevant and just comments (however harsh it might be) and address the issue PROMPTLY to keep its USP intact and not to read too much into who said what.......Because at the end of the day we all are fellow brethern in the same boat sailing against a strong current.

Unions/Association and their leaders are the worst enemies of the Bankers. In 1979 Pillai had got pay of 700-1800 for JM,which was equal to Deputy Secretary GOI.GM`s pay 3000-3500 was above Addl. Secy GOI.Now thanks to Unions/Associations,JM is below a clerk of GOI and GM is below Deputy Secy.

Please disclose the facts, what are those facts which you are talking about, fact is it is been more than 2 years no improvement has happened in wage talks, fact is in your list of agenda wage revision is at the bottom, fact is you guys deliberately delaying the wage revision for your levy, fact is right now every banker wants wage revision to get done as soon as possible, fact is you people in union are pathetic and instead of providing congenial environment to bankers harassing us everyday in the name of transfer by stopping us to get promoted by collecting subscription etc.etc., fact is banking is the only sector which continuously performing and has risk and most of the responsibility even then our wages are much lower than other non-performing sector which don't even generate revenue like us...tell us what is the fact through this website...waiting for reply.

I am a member of a union. I want indefinite strike immediately starting tomorrow.. 2 years is too long even for an elephant to give birth. If not then I want a change in the leadership who would take immediate and fruitful decisions, sadly none of that is gonna happen. And I have no way to voice my opinion.. where do I send my letter!? I feel snubbed and ignored And I am excluded from the process that will determine my livelihood!!!..so you see I am one hell of an angry banker.. And I am mouthing off, without a proper channel I am venting off my anger everywhere.. And now our leaders will send lawyers to prosecute me whose fee comes from my paycheck.. What a free country we live in..

There are various CPSEs and CPSUs where employees r much happy and prosperous even without any so called association. But in banks we have associations having one of d largest members but still everytime failing miserably in all their attempts with no bargaining power. Shame on these associations who r incapable to capitalise on its strengths.

DELAYED?? Is he a moron? He has ruined the career of all bankers by delaying wage revision for more than 2 years.Bhagat Singh ki yaad agayi. Ye behre ho gaye...

yes, some people are manipulating the facts. but wage settlement has been delayed and there is indeed a very efficient and timely action to be taken . otherwise youngsters will loose hopes to get into the PSB's. if you can understand the work pressure in psb's , its really mounting like anything with all newly added schemes. at the same if you can see the payouts its really exploiting spaecially clerical cdre..

IF IN BANKING INTERNATIONAL NORMS LIKE NPA, BASEL3, RISK MANAGEMENT, CUSTOMER SERVICE ETC ARE FOLLOWED, WHY SALARY IS LESS THAN A DOMESTIC MARKET???? MORE OVER ARREAR HAS BECOME NPA. WHETHER WE SHOULD WRITE OFF IT?? OUR LEADERS HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB IN PAST AND WILL DO DEFINITELY IN FUTURE BUT QUESTION IS STILL THERE A BIG " WHEN AND WHY SO"...................

DELAYED JUSTICE IS 'DENIED JUSTICE'. LIKE THIS WE CAN QUOTE "DELAYED WAGE HIKE IS 'DENIED WAGE HIKE". I do not understand why the union leaders are taking such a long time to get the wage revision settlement signed. Perhaps, it is now 36 months delayed. ie. the wage revision talks should have been started from 01.11.2011 though the end of IXth Settlement is 31.10.2012. The elder bankmen should have known the real truth. Earlier the Bi-Part settlement was once in 4 years. Later it was extended to 5 years with a ride that the next wage settlement talks should start immediately on completion of 4th year and should have signed before the end of the 5th year. No body has followed this arrangements. The IBA along with Union leaders are cheating the bank employees and denying their rights over wage revision as and when it falls due.

Not going back in ancient history, but just a couple of months back. Our nation overthrew a government out of its cushioned seats merely on the grounds of bad state of economy and price rise. The Bankers who toil to keep the economy in shape and shoulder the responsibility of circulation of money and credit creation, facilitating each and every transaction, however minuscle or grand that is. Touching the lives of every citizen even beyond geographical boundaries. Now is the not just the time for military muscle but the world is a battleground for economic warfare. Every great nation has strethened itself on the sweat of people who build their economy, but not us. We were trained to utilise every single penny for our Bank and the time value of every single penny, but now with this unexplainable delay, the demands have already lost their worth. Value of money has depreciated but that is of no concern to anybody. Why didnt the Union ask for an interim relief, before the final negotiations 2 years back, was that calculation too complex for our Bankers ? Why negotiations are not in sync with other Central govt units, despite almost all Banks earning huge profits and distributing heavy dividends ? The only profitable government wing is heading towards shambles , if you think Indian Banking Industry is too big to fail, then just wait and watch. Or is it just a conspiracy of government to weaken it and through it into pieces to private corporate dogs, like a rotten bone for few nickels ? All the basic principals of economics and employee welfare are being defied, should we take a hint ? The constitutional rights of expression are being curbed or at least threatened, is it a tyranny or Irony ?
